Marriage: don’t rush, ask yourselves these questions first!

We all wonder if we made the right choice, but often when we think about it, it is already too late. Marriage is not a trivial act and we should not get started without having carefully thought through several things concerning our future engagement as well as our potential future husband. Here are some questions to ask yourself, some thoughts that can help you make this big decision.

Spending your life with the same person is not easy, so you have to know who will have the immense privilege of sharing the rest of your life with you. Ask yourself if you feel that the time spent together is worth it, if you feel comfortable being with him or her. Do you often disagree on petty things? Do you argue a lot? Do you have a lot in common?

Think also about the kind of hobbies do you both share, what interests do you have in common? Are there sporting activities or topics of conversation that you both enjoy? The question of leisure and commonalities between two people is also very important for the survival of a marriage, so do not take these reflections lightly.

Do you have friends in common; do you enjoy spending time with your loved ones, your family? Ask yourself the question of personal beliefs, do you agree on this point? Do you share the same religion? Do you enjoy the same books, movies and music?

Another important question to think about: Have you reflected together on the question of having children? Does he/she agree? If so, did you ask yourself when you are planning to have children? Thinking about your place of life, your little love nest, did you think where to live together, where to build your future house to found your family? Do you agree with the type of accommodation?

Are you both enjoying your professional lives? Does your career pass before or after your family life? What do you both expect from marriage that you don't already have in your current life?

The concern is to know what each one of you wants, your respective priorities should be thoroughly discussed before talking about marriage, because it is not once the ring is put on your finger that things should be reevaluated. You have to spend enough time thinking about marriage before making a decision.

It is always preferable to succeed in a long-term marriage, to share similar ambitions, plans, hopes and dreams for the decades to come. So, don’t rush, think first.
