“My mother is against my marriage with the woman I chose. What should I do?”

“My mother is against my marriage with the woman I chose. What should I do?”

"One day my mother called me telling me that she went to see a wizard in Mékhé (a village in Senegal) and the latter told her that my girlfriend and I are not compatible."

“Dear friends,

I am a Senegalese living in Dakar; I have been with my girlfriend in secret for a long time. This year I got a job and decided to marry her.

I went to the village to introduce her to my mother using the phone as my girlfriend currently lives abroad. I felt that my mother didn't agree at all that my girlfriend lives outside and she is not going to agree to come and live next to my mother. I don't want her to come to Senegal either, because I have just started my job, and I am not able to meet her needs. She works and will then be able to take care of herself until I build my house.

One day my mother called me telling me that she went to see a wizard in Mékhé (a village in Senegal) and the latter told her that my girlfriend and I are not compatible.

The next day, I also went to see a wizard whom I know very well. He asked me for the girl's name, the names of both her parents and the names of mine as well. Then he gave me an appointment in two days. Once back to see him, my wizard tells me that we are quite compatible.

Frankly, I know my girlfriend well. She is a good girl, pious and loves me very much. She was the one who paid me for my registration fees when I was doing my Masters degree.

Currently I am lost, I do not want to get confused with my mother and I want to marry my girlfriend who I love very much.

Help me, I need your advice.”
