“My mom is against my marriage to the one I chose, help me!”
“Currently I am lost, I do not want to get confused with my mother and I want to marry my girlfriend who I love very much.”Published on August 17, 2020, Mbaye
I am a Senegalese man living in Dakar; I have been dating my girlfriend in secret for a long time. This year I got a job and I decided to marry her.
I went to the village to introduce my girlfriend to my mother, over the phone as she currently lives abroad. I felt that she didn't agree at all that my girlfriend lives abroad and she is not going to agree to come and live next to my mother. I don't want her to come to Senegal either because I have just started my job or I am not able to meet her needs. She works and will then be able to take care of herself until I build my house Insha Allah.
One day my mother called me telling me that she went to see a “Marabout” (wizard) in Mékhé (a village in Senegal) and the latter told her that my girlfriend and I are not compatible.
The next day, I also went to see a Marabout whom I know very well. He asked me for the girl's name, the names of both of her parents and the names of mine as well. Then he gave me an appointment in two days. Once back to see him, my marabout tells me that we are quite compatible.
Frankly, I know my girlfriend well. She is a good girl, pious and loves me very much. She was the one who paid me my registration fees when I was doing my Masters.
Currently I am lost, I do not want to get confused with my mother and I want to marry my girlfriend who I love very much.
Help me, I need your advice.”
